Nyungwe Forest National Park lies in southwest Rwanda, partly abutting the Burundi border and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nyungwe forest is one of Africa’s most celebrated biodiversity hotspots and a top safari destination in Rwanda. Nyungwe is primarily known for chimpanzee trekking and the iconic canopy walkway. Nyungwe is renowned for its rich biodiversity and is home to many species, including over 1,068 plant species, 310 bird species, and a thriving population of primates such as the black and white colobus monkeys, offering nature enthusiasts an unparalleled experience.
Park fees for Nyungwe Forest National Park vary depending on the park activity you would like to participate in and the visitor’s residency status. Foreign residents, foreign non-residents, and Rwandan or East African residents are charged differently. Each category of traveler is charged differently, and below is a list of charges that are levied for each traveler while on a tour in Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Nyungwe Forest National Entry Fees
The park entry fee is mandatory for all visitors visiting Nyungwe forest, whether staying overnight or for a single day. This fee grants access to all standard nature walk trails, including waterfalls, but excludes trails that take more than one day.
The park incentivizes longer stays by reducing the fee for subsequent nights. The entry fee is payable for up to three nights, with the fourth through seventh nights free of charge

Special Park Activities
Special activities in Nyungwe incur an additional fee on top of the compulsory park entry fee. A minimum group size of two people applies to most activities, meaning a solo traveler must pay for two permits.

Chimpanzee Habituation Experience (Includes tracker/guide – Four people maximum)
This immersive experience involves spending a full day with trackers and chimpanzees, observing their behavior, diet, and even participating in identifying individual chimps. It typically takes place in the Gisovu Chimpanzee Community in the northern part of the park.
