Our 4 Days Lake Mburo and Bwindi Gorillas Safari takes you to Lake Mburo National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, situated in the western region of Uganda. Visit Uganda and see the magnificent mountain gorilla, one of the world’s most endangered creatures. Hike through the deep bush with a native tracker in pursuit of these spectacular species to see Uganda’s birdlife, frogs, and butterflies. Mountain gorillas will undoubtedly capture hearts and leave most people awestruck when they first see them. Finding the gorillas can be a difficult and long journey. You will only be with the gorillas for one hour.

Day 1: Pickup in Kampala and Transfer Lake Mburo National Park.
Pickup and Transfer to Lake Mburo: Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel. After the meeting we make our way to Lake Mburo National Park which is approximately a 3 hours’ drive from Kampala. The national park is mainly dominated by acacia woodland which different to most other parks in East Africa. It’s the best place in the country to see the gigantic eland antelope and has about 68 different species of mammals including zebras, impalas, buffalo, leopards, hyenas and jackals.
There are five lakes within the park which are home to hippos, crocodiles and a variety of water birds, while the papyrus swamps provide cover for the Sitatunga antelope and red, black and yellow papyrus Gonolek. This small park is less well-known among tourists so it’s much quieter than some of the more famous East African parks.
Afternoon Boat Cruise: Take an afternoon boat cruise as you explore Lake Ihema and make sure to lookout for a variety of bird species within and around the lake area. Dinner and overnight at Mburo Safari Lodge/ Arcadia Lodge/ Mihingo Lodge.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Morning Game Drive: On the 2nd day of your Our 4 Days Lake Mburo and Bwindi Gorillas Safari, have breakfast at your lodge and set out for a morning game drive in the park which takes approximately an hour. Look out for zebras, giraffes, impalas, Sitatunga, waterbucks, buffalos, reedbucks, and so many more.
Transfer to Bwindi: After the game drive, you will drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is approximately a 4 to 5 hours’ drive depending on which sector of Bwindi you will be visiting. Famous for its remarkable biodiversity, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park shelters many endangered species including roughly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Visits are strictly controlled to minimize the possibility of disturbance or transmission of disease to the animals. Tracking gorillas in the dense forest can sometimes be wet, muddy and uncomfortable and may reach altitudes of almost 2000 metres above sea level. The terrain is by no means easy either, so it can be pretty strenuous and often humid, but the sheer thrill in coming across a habituated group of gorillas, dominated by a great male silverback, more than outweighs any difficulty. You need to be prepared and fit enough to walk up to 4 hours – up and down hill. Dinner and Overnight at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge/Buhoma Haven Lodge/Silverback Lodge.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Optional Batwa Trail Experience.
Gorilla Trekking: On the 3rd day of your 4 Days Lake Mburo and Bwindi Gorillas, have breakfast very early at you lodge as your guide will pick you up at 6am. You will embark on a short journey to the Parks headquarters in Buhoma or the southern part of the park depending on which gorilla group you are going to track. You are supposed to be at Buhoma at exactly 7am for a briefing by the park’s head ranger which will begin at 8am and then you will be put in groups of 8 individuals per group depending on the gorilla group you are going to track. Tracking begins at exactly 8:30 am hence endeavor to always keep time.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has a total of 15 habituated gorilla groups that are tracked from four trailheads. Of these 15 habituated gorilla groups, 3 are found in Buhoma area in the northwest part of the park; while 4 gorilla groups are situated in Ruhija in the eastern part of Bwindi and 8 gorilla groups in Nkuringo and Rushaga respectively, located south of Bwindi.
Each tracking group consists of strictly eight individuals with each group having a park guide and ranger. Tracking can take about 1- 8 hours or more depending how easily and quick the gorillas are spotted. Once you have located a gorilla group, you will be given exactly an hour with them. After your gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Forest, you will be given time to have your packed lunch in case your carried some from your lodge.
Batwa Trail Experience (Optional): The Batwa trail experience is one of the most interesting and adventurous activities that are conducted in the park. This hiking experience is conducted by local Batwa guides in Bwindi impenetrable forest. You will get to learn a lot including how to hunt using tradition hunting tools and methods, how to use herbs to medicinal purposes and so much more. You will have an opportunity to interact with some of the Batwa local, who are also referred to as Pygmies.
Head back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer Back to Kampala
Transfer back to Kampala: Wake up at leisure and have breakfast at your lodge. You will then meet up with your guide and drive back to Kampala where your guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice in Kampala or at the Airport in Entebbe in time to check-in and board your flight back home.
