Detailed Itinerary For 4 Days Nyungwe Chimps, Canopy Walk & Hiking Safari.
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park and canopy walk.
Arrival & Transfer to Nyungwe: In the morning, you will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Nyungwe forest National Park. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch enroute.
Canopy Walk: After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk-a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you there after connect to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Visitor Centre (Budget)/ Nyungwe Top hill view hotel (Mid-range), Nyungwe One & Only (Luxury).
Day 2: Hike Rukuzi Trail and Transfer Back to Kigali.
Hike Rukuzi Trail: Have your breakfast early in the morning. You will then embark on a guided hike along Rukuzi trail. This trail covers 9 kilometers and takes approximately 5 hours to complete a full circuit. It is one of the best hiking trails in Nyungwe Forest national park and is usually used by visitors doing chimpanzee trekking in the park which means that you stand high chances of encountering chimpanzees and other primates like colobus monkeys during your hike. Hiking this trail will also bless you will spectacular views of Lake Kivu which is shared by Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. After your hike, drive back to your hotel/lodge for lunch and relax for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking & Visit Gisakura Tea Estate.
Chimpanzee Trekking: Have an early breakfast and then head to the Park’s headquarters in Uwinka where you will be briefed by the park’s head ranger and placed in trekking groups of 8 members per group. Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park begins at exactly 8am, so endeavor to keep time and make sure you are at the Uwinka center by 7am.
Nyungwe Forest National Park is home to approximately 80 habituated chimpanzees. While tracking chimps in the forest, you might as well spot other primate species such as; the black and white colobus monkey, red-tailed monkey, golden monkey and other monkey species. You will have your packed lunch after your chimp trekking activity or return to your hotel for lunch and good rest.
Visit Gisakura Tea Estate: Later in the evening, you can head to Gisakura Tea estate. Here, you will be taken through the process of tea growing, harvesting, processing and packaging. You will even get to taste the delicious taste of the final product.
Later return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight.
Day 4: Transfer Back to Kigali & Departure.
Transfer Back to Kigali & Departure: Have breakfast at leisure and later check out of your hotel. You will then transfer back to Kigali where your guide/driver will drop you off at any hotel of your choice or directly at the airport in time to check-in and board your flight back home. End of Trip.
