Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Nyungwe and Volcanoes Safari- Rwanda.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Nyungwe National Park.

Arrival & Transfer to Nyungwe: In the morning, you will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Nyungwe forest National Park. You will have a stopover at the King’s Palace in Butare and then have lunch enroute to the park. Arrive at Nyungwe later in the afternoon and visit Gisakura Tea Estate which is one of the popular tea plantations in Nyungwe. Take part in harvesting tea from the farm and learn more about it is stored, processed and packaged for sale in the local markets and exported out. You will also get to taste the final product and later drive back to your hotel for dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guesthouse/Nyungwe Top Hill View/ Nyungwe One & Only.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk.

Chimpanzee Trekking: Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are the easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3 hours. You will then return to your accommodation for lunch.

Canopy Walk: After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk, a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before night fall, you will return to the hotel for dinner and overnight same as above.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park via Gisenyi.

Transfer to Volcanoes: Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast at your hotel. You will then meet up with your guide/driver and drive to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri, passing through Gisenyi. It takes about 4 to 5 hours’ drive from Nyungwe national park to Volcanoes national park. Lunch in Gisenyi enroute to Volcanoes national park. Upon your arrival in Volcanoes, check into your accommodation and later in the evening have dinner and overnight stay at Muhabura Lodge/ Le Bambou/ Five Volcanoes Lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla Trekking: Breakfast early in the morning and drive to the park headquarters in Kinigi by 7 a.m. When you arrive at Volcanoes National Park, you will be greeted by the park’s chief ranger, who will inform you and provide you with instructions to follow while tracking gorillas and in their presence. After that, you’ll be divided into tracking groups, each of which will include eight people.

Activities for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes begin at 8 a.m., and you will be escorted by armed park guards, professional guides, and porters if you have luggage to transport. Remember to bring a packed lunch on this day, since gorilla trekking can take anywhere from 2 to 7 hours to discover the gorillas.

Later drive back to your lodge for dinner and accommodation same above.

Day 5: Iby’iwacu Village Tour and Transfer back to Kigali.

Iby’iwacu Village Tour: After having breakfast at your lodge, drive to the Iby’iwacu village to learn more about Rwanda’s fascinating culture. You will get the opportunity to engage with the locals, see their daily lives, and attend dance performances by the local intore dance company. While you’re there, you’ll hear about how majority of the people in the Iby’iwacu village were previously poachers who were rehabilitated and now work in the national park’s conservation initiatives.

Transfer back to Kigali: Drive back to Kigali where your driver/guide will drop you off and your hotel or directly at the airport. On this day you will carter for your own lunch which you can have enroute to Kigali or upon your arrival in the city. End of Tour.
