Day 1: Pick-up and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Pickup & Transfer to Volcanoes: You will be picked up by our company representative upon arrival at Kigali International Airport. You will have a short tour of the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site and Caplaki market in Kigali. Have lunch before proceeding with your transfer to Volcanoes National Park. Later in the afternoon, you will transfer to Ruhengeri town for dinner and overnight stay at Muhabura Hotel/ Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge/ 5 Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Iby’iwacu Community Tour.
Gorilla Trekking: Breakfast early in the morning and drive to the park headquarters in Kinigi by 7 a.m. When you arrive at Volcanoes National Park, you will be greeted by the park’s chief ranger, who will inform you and provide you with instructions to follow while tracking gorillas and in their presence. After that, you’ll be divided into tracking groups, each of which will include eight people.
Activities for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes begin at 8 a.m., and you will be escorted by armed park guards, professional guides, and porters if you have luggage to transport. Remember to bring a packed lunch on this day, since gorilla trekking can take anywhere from 2 to 7 hours to discover the gorillas.
Iby’iwacu Community Tour: Later in the afternoon, you’ll go to the Iby’iwacu village to learn more about Rwanda’s fascinating culture. You will get the opportunity to engage with the locals, see their daily lives, and attend dance performances by the local intore dance company. While you’re there, you’ll hear about how majority of the people in the Iby’iwacu village were previously poachers who were rehabilitated and now work in the national park’s conservation initiatives. Hiking to the Musanze caverns and exploring them is also a possibility. You’ll learn about the caverns’ history as well as its cultural significance in Rwanda’s past.
Later return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Transfer to Nyungwe: Breakfast will be served early and you will transfer to Nyungwe forest national park with a stop at the King’s Palace in Butare and lunch en-route. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel/ Gisakura Visitor Centre
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk.
Chimpanzee Trekking: Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are the easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3 hours. You will then return to your accommodation for lunch.
Canopy Walk: After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk, a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before night fall, you will return to the hotel for dinner and overnight same as above.
Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali.
Transfer back to Kigali: Take your breakfast at leisure and then drive back to Kigali City. You then proceed with a tour of Kigali City if you want, depending on when your flight back home departs. While on your Kigali city tour, you can visit places that you missed out touring on Day 1 of your trip. End of Safari.
