Entrance Fees to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Entrance fees to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park are the fares levied by the Uganda Wildlife Authority to persons that visit the park. With a size of 321 square kilometers, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the most visited parks in Uganda with gorilla trekking being he topmost reason for this. Nature walks, cultural trails and bird watching among so many other activities can also be done while in the park. The park has the highest population of mountain gorillas and it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The park borders Virunga National Park of the Congo in the West and Kibale is the nearest town with a distance of only 29kms. The park can be reached by road on an 8-9 hours’ scenic drive from Kampala or by air by chartered flights available from Entebbe to Kihihi or Kisoro. The park can also be accessed from Kigali for it is only a 4 hours’ drive from Kigali International Airport to the park.
As earlier mentioned, entrance fees and all fares in regards to the park are levied by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The fees are stipulated according to the resident status of the traveler and age.
Individual park entrance fees
Foreign Non-Residents pay $40, Foreign Residents pay $30 and East African citizens pay ugx20,000 as individual park entrance for adults.
Children pay $20 for Foreign Non-Residents, $10 for Foreign Residents and ugx3000 for East African citizens.
Annual park entry fees can be paid that a traveler can go to the park on any day. This is only valid for foreign residents who have a valid work permit and East African citizens. The fares are stipulated thus;
An individual pays $350 for foreign residents while East African citizens pay ugx150,000 for an annual pass to Bwindi.
A foreign resident couple pays $500 and an East African couple pays ugx200000 for an annual pass
A foreign resident family with a maximum of 4 children pays $700 while an East African family pays ugx300000 for an annual pass to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
An annual corporate pass to Bwindi for foreign residents is $1500 and for East African citizens is ugx2,500,000.
Both a safari guide and taxi driver are charged ugx100000 as annual park entrance fee
Tour company drivers have free passes to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Important to note on annual passes:
- Vehicle entrance is charged separately
- Doesn’t include package activities like gorilla tracking, hiking
- Foreign residents require valid work permits of at least a year to qualify
Vehicles, aircraft, boats, and motorbikes are also charged landing and entrance fees per entry as below;
Motorcycles with foreign registration pay $30 while those with a Ugandan registration pay $5
Saloon cars with foreign number plates are charged $40 while those with the Ugandan number plates are charged $10 only.
Tour company vehicles, 4WD vehicles with foreign registration pay $150 while those with a Ugandan registration pay $15 only.
Over Landers with foreign registration are charged $150 per entry while those with Ugandan registration pay $15 only.
Aircraft landing fees are the same irrespective of the resident status and registration and are paid per landing, as seen below;
- Up to 3 seater aircraft are charged $20 per landing in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
- 4-6 seater are charged $30
- 7-14 seater are charged $40
- 15-20 seater are charged $50
- 21 seater and more are charged $60 per landing
- Helicopters with foreign registration are charged $100 while those that are Ugandan are charged $125
- Parking fees are at ugx10000 per day
Important to note on vehicles, boats and aircrafts;
- Park entrance fees for vehicles and boats are charged per entry
- Landing fees for aircrafts exclude park entry fees payable by passengers
- Pilots en-route are not required to pay any fee, provided they do not spend more than 2 hours in the park.

- All visitors will be required to present valid identification documents to confirm resident status

- A day’s entrance ticket is valid for twenty-four hours from time of
- entrance.
- Extra time spent in the park after 24 hours will be charged as an extra day.
- Children are persons aged between 5-15 years.
- Persons below 5 years are exempt
- Entrance fees are independent of package activities such as gorilla tracking, chimp tracking, Mountain climbing, Bird watching and so on
- Tariff fees are subject to change without prior notice.
The above entrance fees to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park are applicable from July 2020 to June 2022, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority reserves the right to change the fares without prior notice.
