Lodging in Nyungwe National Park : If you’re looking for a secluded getaway, then Nyungwe Forest National Park is the perfect place for you! The park is home to over 250 species of birds, as well as impressive landscapes and wildlife. The accommodation options in Nyungwe are varied, and there are plenty of things to do in the area that you can enjoy on your Rwanda safari tours.
Accommodations in the park include two guesthouses and two camping sites. You can also find other places to stay near the park in Gikongoro and Butare. There are two main areas for visiting the park; one in the south-west of the park, and the other in the southeast, Lodging in Nyungwe National Park.
If you’re interested in staying at the park itself, then there are two lodges you can choose from – the Viewpoint Lodge and the Bisate Lodge. Each of these provides a comfortable place to stay, as well as great views of the forest. The Viewpoint Lodge is located at an altitude of 3 000m and offers beautiful views of the Nyungwe forest and the surrounding areas. The Bisate Lodge is also located at an altitude of 2 000m and provides comfortable accommodation in traditional style bungalows.
Camping is also available in the park for those who prefer a more rustic experience. There are two campsites to choose from – the forest camp and the Hippo Pool campsite. You can spend the night in one of the large tents at the forest camp or stay in the simple huts at the Hippo Pool campsite. The forest camp is more secluded and doesn’t have electricity while the Hippo Pool campsite offers electricity for charging batteries and cooking. There’s also an on-site restaurant at both campsites which serves local food.
There are several activities you can take part in while visiting Nyungwe Forest National Park. One of the most popular activities is hiking through the forest to see the beautiful scenery and wildlife that live around the park. There are also several waterfalls in the area which you can see if you’re feeling adventurous. You can go on guided walks if you want to learn more about the area or get some ideas for your next hike. You can also go on a canopy walk at the top of the canopy tower which is more than 50m high and offers spectacular views of the surrounding forests. The park is a great place to explore on foot or by car, and there are signposted trails leading to the main areas of interest within the park. There are also some good mountain biking trails in the area if you want to get a bit of a workout during your stay.
You will also get to enjoy Nyungwe’s biggest tourist attraction, the chimpanzees. These are the largest population of chimps in Africa outside of Uganda and you’ll be able to see them in their natural habitat on one of the many hiking trails around the park. The chimps are very friendly and don’t pose any threat to humans, so you can often feed and touch them if you wish.
