What Do We Find In Nyungwe National Park? Nyungwe National Park, in southwestern Rwanda, is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. In southwest Rwanda, Nyungwe National Park is partially bordered by Burundi. It is a huge area of rainforest, home to a variety of chimpanzees, owl-faced monkeys, and colobus monkeys. The Canopy Walkway, a part of the Igishigishigi Trail, offers a spectacular view of the valley and the surrounding forests from a high suspension bridge. There is also a trail that leads to the Kamiranzovu Marsh, which is home to a wide variety of birdlife, orchids, and waterfalls.
The Nyungwe forest covers approximately 331 square miles and includes three lakes. One of them is Lake Burera which was created when the dam was constructed in 1957. Nyungwe National Park is famous for trailing known as the largest active canopy walkway in the world. It passes through 11 ecosystems and over 80 mammal species. One of the highlights of the hike is a waterfall known as the Big Chimp Falls. The name comes from a rock formation that resembles the face of a chimpanzee and is marked by enormous 100-meter-long twin cascades.

HOW TO GET TO NYUNWE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
There are three main gates to the Park; Butare Gate in the west, Ruhengeri gate in the east, and the Kibuye gate in the south. A fourth entrance, Gisenyi Gate in the north, has recently re-opened to the public following renovations after more than two decades of closure. A fifth gate is due to open in Rusizi District. Whichever direction you come from, you will surely find your way to the Park.
From Kigali city, about 240 km away from the Park, you can visit the Park on a one-day trip from Kigali to Butare by train and then continue your journey by taxi to the park. This is a very popular option for tourists visiting Kigali as it is very affordable and also very convenient as you will not need to drive yourself around the park. The park can also be visited on day trips from other cities in Rwanda or even from other countries in East Africa where tourist companies organize regular trips.
