Our 4 Days Nyungwe and Volcanoes Safari gives you the opportunity to encounter Great Apes during your Rwanda Safari. Track chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest national park and also enjoy a guided hike to the canopy walkway bridge and later drive to Volcanoes national park where you will be trekking Mountain Gorillas and also enjoy a cultural tour to Ibyiwacu village, which is also known as the ‘Gorilla Guardians Village.’

Detailed Itinerary for 4 days Nyungwe & Volcanoes Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
In the morning, you will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Nyungwe forest National Park. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch enroute. Dinner and overnight at lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trek, Canopy Walk and Transfer Back to Kigali.
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3 hours. You will then have your packed lunch and later return back to base where you will meet up with your driver guide.
After having your packed lunch, you will embark on a guided nature walk along the famous canopy walkway bridge- a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you there after connect to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure. This hike takes only 2 hours. Later meet up with your guide and drive back to Kigali. Upon your arrival in Kigali city, you can choose to have your driver drop you off at your hotel for dinner and overnight stay at your preferred hotel.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park and Ibyi’ wacu Village Tour
Have a relaxed breakfast meal at your hotel. You will then meet up with your driver guide and head out for a short tour of Kigali City where you will visit interesting sites like Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, Kimironko market and Caplaki craft Village and then have lunch before finally driving to Volcanoes national park where you will embark on a cultural tour of Ibyi’ wacu Village, also known as ‘the gorilla guardians’ village.’ Enjoy dance and singing performances from the local intore dance troupe and visit the former king’s palace. Later drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Trek and Transfer Back to Kigali.
Breakfast will be served early. The briefing is at 7 am. Your guide will give you highlights of specific details about the way of life of the gorillas you will be tracking. The hike can take anything from one to seven hours.
Trekking through the steep, bamboo slopes and then finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring and privileged moment. Once you reach the gorillas, you are allowed to spend one hour with them as you stand 6 meters away. Upon completion of this magical encounter, you will connect again with your driver / guide and drive to your lodge for lunch and refresh yourself. After lunch you will transfer back to Kigali arriving in the evening. Drop-off at the airport or your hotel in Kigali.
