Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Arrival & Transfer to Volcanoes: When you arrive at Kigali International Airport, our guide and travel business representative will be waiting for you. You will then be transferred to Kigali for lunch and a brief city tour, including stops at craft villages and the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Monument, before making our final journey to Volcanoes National Park, where we will arrive for dinner and overnight preparations for a thrilling gorilla tracking experience the following day. Dinner and a night’s stay at your resort.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Twin Lakes
Gorilla Trekking: On the second day of your four-day Rwanda Gorillas & Dian Fossey Safari, you will rise early for an early breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters to attend the 30-minute briefing meeting, which begins at 7:30 a.m. and lasts until 8:00 a.m. This is where we will be briefed on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking, separated into groups, and assigned gorilla families to track. We’ll next proceed into the trees in search of these gentle giants, a mission that should last between 2 and 8 hours depending on how long it takes us to find the gorillas.
When we find them, we will have a full hour of a close contact with them, giving you plenty of time to snap photos, watch them, and meet them as they return your greeting with a smile.
Visit Twin Lakes: Following this experience, we will return to our resort for lunch, rest, and then go to Rwanda’s twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, before returning to our lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Dian Fossey Hike and Iby’ iwacu Cultural Tour.
Dian Fossey Hike: On the third day of your four-day Dian Fossey Hike and Iby’ iwacu Cultural Tour, you will visit the burial of the late Dian Fossey, an American primatologist and environmentalist known for her decades-long conservation and research studies of mountain gorillas. The climb is physically demanding but well worth every second of your time, making it an ideal opportunity for you to reconcile with Rwanda’s Mountain Gorilla heritage.
Iby’iwacu Cultural Tour: Following this journey, we will return to our hotel for lunch before heading to Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, a destination where Rwandan culture presents itself via dances and different traditional performances. We’ll then return to our hotel for supper and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking and Transfer Back to Kigali.
Golden Monkey Trekking: Today is the last day of your visit to Volcanoes National Park. Following an early morning meal, we will go to the park headquarters to meet up with a group before returning to the jungle in search of golden monkeys, a hunt that can last up to 5 hours depending on the monkeys’ mobility during the day. When you find these primates, we will spend an hour with them before returning to your safari lodge for lunch and then driving back to Kigali International Airport to catch your departing flight.
