Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
On the first day of your 5 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzees and Bwindi Gorillas Safari, in the morning, the driver will pick you up from your Kigali hotel and transport you south to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will stop in Butare to see the Rwandan National Museum and the King’s Palace in Nyanza, with lunch en- route.
Later retire back to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trek and Canopy Walk
On the second day of your 5 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzees and Bwindi Gorillas Safari, enjoy breakfast and attend a briefing before entering the forest to look for lively and playful companions in Nyungwe forest. Chimpanzees are easy to see as they bounce from one tree to the next, talking and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest national park typically takes roughly 3-6 hours or more depending on the location of chimpanzees. You will then eat your packed lunch and return to the base, where you will meet your driving guide.
Following your packed lunch, you will go on a guided nature walk along the famed canopy walkway bridge, which is a 50-meter-long swing bridge hung from enormous trees. You will be able to observe the spectacular rainforest from a bird’s eye view, witnessing wildlife moving about below you before returning to your hotel to relax for the evening. This hike only takes two hours.
Later meet up with your guide and drive to back your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi and Afternoon Boat Cruise.
On the third day of your 5 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzees and Bwindi Gorillas Safari, following breakfast at your lodge/hotel, you will check out of your accommodation and meet with your driver guide. You will travel around 5 hours to Gisenyi, arriving in time for lunch at your lodge/hotel. Later in the afternoon, you will have a boat trip on Lake Kivu, where you will be able to see some of the islands on the lake as well as a variety of bird species.
Later have dinner and an overnight stay at your designated hotel.
Day 4: Drive to Bwindi National Park and Optional Batwa Cultural Tour.
On the fourth day of your 5 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzees and Bwindi Gorillas Safari, you will have breakfast first, followed by a meeting with your driving guide. You will then travel for 2-3 hours to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, stopping for lunch along the way to your lodge. When you arrive in Bwindi, check into your lodge and then take an optional Batwa cultural trip, during which you will visit the adjacent Batwa settlement, interact with the residents, explore local craft stores, and enjoy traditional dance and singing performances by the local dance company.
Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 5: Gorilla Trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Transfer Back to Kigali.
You will have an early breakfast and then transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and bottled water for the park ranger guides’ briefing at 7:00 a.m. Following the briefing, you will begin your gorilla trekking expedition, escorted by ranger guides, in search of mountain gorillas, which will take between 2 and 8 hours depending on the gorillas’ movements. Following the hike, you will have your lunch packs before being transferred back to Kigali, where you will arrive in the evening. Drop off at the airport or your accommodation in Kigali.
