Chimpanzee Trekking in Cyamudongo and Nyungwe Forests.

Each trekking party is limited to a maximum of eight people. Nyungwe Forest is a rainforest with slippery terrain that requires sturdy hiking shoes, a rain poncho in case of a downpour, long sleeved thick shirts for the cold weather, long trousers to protect you from the long creeping undergrowth if you go off the beaten path, and binoculars to see the chimps if you happen to find them high up in the trees.
Canopy Walk
Today you will go on East Africa’s one-of-a-kind canopy walk. This 2 hour guided hike excursion crosses a hill before mounting a 50-meter-high platform and a suspension footbridge across a steep and deep valley that spans the vast forest. It takes you through some breathtaking countryside and animal species. In the top levels of the forest, you may spot blue monkeys and other strange birds.
Primate Tracking Experience
Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest national park is home to 13 primate species, with monkeys accounting for more than half of them. Some of the monkeys, like as the Rwenzori Colobus Monkey, are indigenous to the area. Grey-Cheeked Mangabeys, L’Hoest Monkeys, Owl Faced Monkeys, Blue-Monkeys, and Mona Monkeys may all be found on one of Nyungwe’s 13 hiking trails. Rockefeller’s Sunbird, Green Pigeons, Ross’s Turaco, Red-Breasted Sparrow Hawk, White Headed Wood Hoopoe, Francolin, Rwenzori Turaco, Red-Faced Woodland Warbler, Collared Apalis, Mountain Masked Apalis, Ruwenzori Batis, Stripe-Breasted Tit, and Regal Sunbird are among the other species seen.
There are various hiking trails in the park where you may watch the birds. The more trails you hike, the more probable it is that you may spot birds. Certain species may be difficult to discover due to the park’s vastness.

The Igishigishigi Trek is the shortest and includes an exhilarating canopy hike. The Bigugu Path, on the other hand, is the park’s longest path, taking up to eight hours to complete. How to Get to Nyungwe Forest National Park?
The national park is accessible by road or air. The national park is located in Rwanda’s southwest, in the Butare district near Cyangugu town. The 225-kilometer travel from Kigali to Nyungwe national park takes around 6 hours. Visitors who come to the park on their own can rent a car or take a bus to the park’s visitor centers at Uwinka Center or Gisakura.
Kigali International Airport also has direct flights to the park. Domestic flights from Kigali to Kamembe International Airport, which serves the Rwandan cities of Kamembe and Cyangugu, are available. The distance between Kamembe airport and Nyungwe Forest National Park is 32 kilometers which is about 40mins to an hour’s drive.
