Detailed Itinerary for 11 Days Rwanda Uganda Safari
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Akagera National Park
Upon your arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed by our company representative and driven to Akagera national park. Depending on your time of arrival in the park, you will embark on an evening game drive in the southern sector of the park.
Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 2: Full Day Game Drive (Northern Sector of Akagera)
Breakfast will be served early in the morning. Today you will have a full day game drive in the northern sector of Akagera National Park that is rich in wildlife. Explore the beautiful savannah plains of Akagera as you view a number of wildlife such as rhinos, antelopes, elephants, buffalos, zebras, giraffes, lions, leopards and so many more.
Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge same as the previous day.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Sunset Boat Cruise
After having breakfast, head out for a morning game drive in the park. This is your chance to search for any wildlife species that you might not have seen in the previous game drive. Lunch will be served at your lodge and later in the evening you will head out for a sunset boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you stand the chance to view a number of bird species in the area include the highly sought after Shoebill stork.
Retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Optional Hot Air Balloon Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Have breakfast and check out of your lodge. You will may choose to do an optional hot air balloon tour in Akagera national park before driving to Volcanoes national park. The hot air balloon tour in Akagera starts at 5 am in the morning with registration and briefing in the park and the tour lasts an hour. Set off time for your hot air balloon tour depends on the weather conditions on this day. Later drive to Volcanoes National Park where depending on your time of arrival, you may choose to do an optional tour of Musanze caves. These caves hold a very significant cultural and historical story for the Rwandan people. The caves also host many bats which you can see during your tour of the caves.

Day 5: Gorilla Trek and Iby’iwacu Village Tour
Early in the morning after breakfast and transfer to Volcanoes national park, leaving Kigali by 4am. Arrive at the park headquarters at 7am for briefing from the RDB officials, set off for the gorilla trek. This experience of gorilla trekking is a once in a life time adventure. The rangers will lead you deep into the forest in search of the Gorillas.
You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures whose company you will cherish for 1 hour. The activity in Rwanda can take 3-5 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas.
After your gorilla trek experience, you have lunch and later visit Ibyi’wacu Village for a cultural experience. You will the visit the former King’s palace and watch interesting dance and singing performances from the local dance troupe. Return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Bisoke Hike and Transfer to Mgahinga National Park
Mount Bisoke is one of the Virunga volcanic mountains but is currently a dormant one. The Mount Bisoke is a one-day hike which is usually completed in 5 hours to and back. View the volcanoes forest from the top and at a breathtaking distance. Once you have completed the safari, you will connect to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park crossing via the Cyanika border.
Upon your arrival, check into your lodge for dinner.
Day 7: Golden Monkey Trek and Transfer to Bwindi- Rushaga Sector
Have breakfast and connect back for yet another adventurous primate trek. You will attend a briefing ahead of the golden monkey trekking and head out to the forest for a chance with the small but playful primates.
Have your lunch and then drive to Bwindi park (Rushaga sector) which is about an hour’s drive from Mgahinga park. Check into your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Gorilla Trek
After an early morning breakfast, you will depart with your packed lunch and proceed to the park headquarters for briefing and take to the forest for gorilla trekking! Your child can spend that time at the hotel or in the company of guide as they visit around. Gorilla Trekking can take an hour or four depending on the movement of the gorillas.
The time remaining after visiting the gorillas can either be spent relaxing and remembering the trek or hiking in the foothills and visiting local communities. Dinner and overnight at your lodge as above
Day 9: Guided Nature Walk and Batwa Cultural Tour
Breakfast will be served in the morning. You will drive to the park headquarters for your briefing. You will be assigned a park ranger and guide then head out into Bwindi impenetrable forest on a guided nature walk. During your nature walk, you will get to see a variety of bird species in the park and wildlife such as bush babies, duikers and primates as well.
After your nature walk, you will have lunch and then later in the afternoon you will visit the neighboring Batwa communities for a cultural tour. Get to interact with the locals and later retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Transfer to Kigali- City Tour
Gather your belongings and head out for breakfast at your lodge. Once all is done, your driver guide will be ready to drive you to connect back to Kigali. Upon your arrival in Kigali, you will have lunch and also visit Kigali Genocide Memorial Center. You can choose to visit other sites in the city if you wish as advised by your driver guide.
Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 11: Departure
This is the last day of the safari. Depending on the time of your flight, you will have your breakfast at the hotel and connect to the Kigali International airport for your flight back home in time for check in.
