Detailed itinerary for 4 Days Bwindi gorilla trekking and Lake Kivu safari from Kigali
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park- Batwa Cultural Tour
Depending on your location in Kigali on the first day of the 4 days gorilla trekking and Lake Kivu safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide from Explore Rwanda Tours, who will brief you about the safari and then start your journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park which is approximately a 5 hours’ drive from Kigali city. On the way you will have stopovers to take photos and en-route to Bwindi impenetrable national park. After lunch you will continue the journey to Bwindi National Park and upon arrival you will check into the lodge and later have a cultural tour to the neighboring Batwa communities where you will be entertained to traditional dances and also get to interact with the locals.
Later have dinner and overnight stay at your designated lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park
After an early breakfast on the second day of the 4 days Bwindi gorilla trekking and Lake Kivu safari, you will carry your packed lunch from the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during trekking. After the briefing you will start trekking in the forest which takes about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food.

During trekking you will be able to view other primate species, different plant species, birds among others. Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to observe their habits, behaviors, watch gorillas feed, breastfeed, groom young ones, take photos and record the breathtaking moments to show people back home after the safari.
After the one-hour encounter with the gentle giants you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be rewarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and then meet up with your driver guide to return to the lodge for dinner and overnight as above.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu and an Afternoon boat cruise
Wake up at leisure and have breakfast at your lodge. You will then meet up with your driver guide and transfer to Lake Kivu crossing the Cyanika border. You will arrive in time for lunch at your lodge and later enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Kivu where you will have an opportunity to explore the lake and some of its islands and bird species surrounding the area.
Later enjoy dinner and overnight stay at your preferred lodge.
Day 4: Coffee Tour & Departure to Kigali
On the last day of the 4 days Bwindi gorilla trekking and Lake Kivu Safari, before heading back to Kigali, you may choose to do a morning coffee tour at Kinunu Coffee Station where you will be taken through a coffee tour; harvesting, processing and packaging. Feel free to purchase some coffee as a sign of support to the local farmers. Upon arrival in Kigali, your driver guide will drop you off at any place of advice.
