These 4 Days Congo Lowland Gorillas and Nyungwe Chimps Safari is the perfect combination for visitors interested in visiting Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. During this 4 Days Rwanda and Congo tour, you will be tracking chimpanzees in Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest National Park and then crossover to Congo where you will track eastern lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park. Please note that this tour begins and ends in Kigali, Rwanda.

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe National Park
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trek and Canopy Walk
Day 3: Transfer to Bukavu-Congo
Day 4: Gorilla Trek and Transfer back to Kigali
4 Days Congo Lowland Gorillas and Nyungwe Chimps Safari
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe National Park
After a morning breakfast on the first day of your 4 Days Congo Lowland Gorillas and Nyungwe Chimps Safari, you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route, you will pass through wonderful and magnificent hills and cultivated countryside. Have a stopover at the royal King’s Palace in Nyanza for a cultural description about the history of Rwanda. Continue and visit the cultural museum at Rwesero. Proceed and reach Butare town where you will have lunch after lunch you will visit the Rwanda National Museum for a tour around the site.
Proceed and reach the lodge in the evening. Dinner and overnight at hotel/lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trek and Canopy Walk
On the second day of your 4 Days Congo Lowland Gorillas and Nyungwe Chimps Safari, you will have an early morning breakfast then report to the park headquarters in Nyungwe forest for briefing before going for chimpanzee tracking. However, it is advisable to organize packed lunch and plenty of water prior to this expedition since it can sometimes last over 6 hours. In the forest, you will not only see chimpanzees to but also variety of animals and birds like the Rwenzori Turaco, black and white casqued horn bill, colobus monkeys – sometimes as many as 400 individuals in a group.
After your gorilla trek, you will also enjoy a 2hour hike to and from the Canopy walkway bridge- a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. This hike takes about 2 hours to and from the canopy walkway bridge. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before night fall, you will return to the hotel for dinner as above. Return late in the afternoon. Return for dinner and Overnight at your hotel/lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Bukavu-Congo- Visit Lwiro Sanctuary
Wake up in the morning and have breakfast at your lodge. You will then check out and drive to the Congo border in Rusizi where you will clear at the immigrations office and then find our Congo guide waiting for you on the Congo side. Drive to Bukavu where you will check into your hotel and have lunch.
Later in the afternoon, you will visit Lwiro sanctuary where you will pay a visit to orphaned and rescued chimpanzees and other primate species that have been rescued from the snares of poachers and are being rehabilitated at the sanctuary.
Later retire to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Gorilla Trek and Transfer back to Kigali
Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast at your hotel. You will then drive to the park headquarters where you will be briefed by the park’s head guide. You will then be placed in a group of eight trekkers and lead by the park rangers and guides into the forest in search for eastern lowland gorillas. Lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Biega national park can take between 1 to 6 hours depending on their location.
Once you have located a group of lowland gorillas, you will be given an hour to spend with the gorillas.
Get to use this opportunity to take pictures of these amazing apes, and also study their habits and physical features.
Later return to base and have lunch before driving back to Kigali city where your driver guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice. If you wish to fly out of Kigali on this day, ensure to book a late night flight out of Kigali.
