When visiting on a Rwanda chimpanzee safari, visitors are advised to bring the following equipment:
- Chimpanzee trekking permit is the most important thing for chimp trekking because without a valid permit, you will not be able to trek any habituated chimp family in Nyungwe Forest or Cyamudongo Forest.
- Hiking boots should be comfortable because you will be trekking for extended periods of time in the jungle.
- Long-sleeved shirt and trouser, the long-sleeved clothing will protect your body as you go through the forest full with thorny plants. You will also need long socks, which will be tucked into the long pants to keep safari ants out of your trousers when hiking.
- Garden gloves, which can come in in if you unintentionally touch a thorny tree while trekking. The garden gloves will also keep infections at bay, and they may be removed during the one-hour photo session with the chimps.
- Walking stick: When you go chimp trekking, you are given a walking stick to help you navigate the jungle, especially during the rainy season when the forest is muddy and hazardous.
